Re: LORD OF THE RINGS: THE HUNT FOR GOLLUM - Andy Serkis & Crew - 2026
No interest whatsoever. In retrospect, I still feel Jackson's LOTR films were really good (and I love Howard Shore's scores for them). Despite some admittedly strong moments, I found them schlocky -- in tone and style they felt like The Sword and the Sorcerer to me. I also thought they were ostenta...

Re: LORD OF THE RINGS: THE HUNT FOR GOLLUM - Andy Serkis & Crew - 2026
Zaslav didn’t reveal any plot points, saying the first film will focus on “storylines yet to be told.” Haven't they learned anything from Amazon's attempt at this? And The Hunt for Gollum ? I don't understand. This is no "hunt for Gollum" in any of the books -- other than a cursory refere...

Re: Red Sun 4K Blu-ray
I’ve always liked this movie. Hardly a classic, but I love the mash-up of chambara and western genres (especially as chambras are essentially samurai westerns). I discovered Red Sun back in the 90s, when flipping channels one afternoon. I’d never heard of it, and was completely flummoxed at the sigh...

Re: PHANTOM MENACE John Williams WBZ Interview
Awesome, thanks! I'd seen this piece before -- but it's always worth revisiting! Although as a film, The Phantom Menace never quite lived-up to to expectations, John Williams score genuinely exceeded expectations. I still consider it one of his greatest achievements. George Lucas' prediction that Wi...

Re: GOLD (1974) Remastered From 88 Films
This is one of those movies which isn't that good...yet remains very watchable thanks to some dramatic locations, a terrific cast, and Elmer Bernstein's score.

Re: rate the last movie you saw
That reminds me, the fact they didn't show Roy killing Sebastien was another thing that left me confused at first. They only communicated that in a police voiceover and I missed that at first. For goodness sake if he's in the room, then show Roy doing the same thing to him (and don't waste extra ti...

I think we need to then *see* the replicants do something horrible to an innocent bystander on Earth to give us a reminder of why Ford has no choice but to do this job. Okay, he kills the other cop Holden at the beginning but that isn't the same thing as seeing a replicant on the loose and then doi...

Re: rate the last movie you saw
-The story itself I didn't think was particularly grabbing or profound. Maybe what I never got was the sense of just why is the existence of replicants so dangerous to human society as a whole that requires their termination? We are told via narration that conceivably innocent humans could be at ri...

The Beekeeper (8/10) I love the films of Akira Kurosawa, David Lean and other great cinema artists...but sometimes I'm in the mood for mindless exploitation trash. And The Beekeeper delivers this in SPADES. The film stars Jason Statham (you know what you're in for right there) as a reclusive beekee...

Re: Jerry Seinfeld: "Movie Business Is Over"
The audience that would be, "hey let's go to a movie Friday," then walk up and literally see what was playing -- that audience is gone. Completely gone. So you have fanboy-driven IP's which appeal to kids and teens and is built-in. Book your seats in advance, you know when you're going to...

Re: Jerry Seinfeld: "Movie Business Is Over"
"I haven't gone to a theater since TOP GUN". Well, that's me! I thought -- naively -- that Top Gun 's popularity as a "big screen popcorn experience" might jump-start and restore movie-going, but it didn't really. A number of months ago I stopped to get something to eat in a nei...

The Three Musketeers: D'Artagnan (6/10) How many times are they going to remake this story? Ok, I'll accept than an actual French adaptation of a story written by a Frenchman is valid. But this is a very uneven movie which ultimately doesn't work. First the good. This film is visually sumptuous, wi...

^^ I'd hazard a guess Ridley Scott won't be casting Brian Cox in his films anytime soon.
