Major Dundee DVD

Just got this DVD today and I will be interested in seeing how this extended cut looks. I'm like many who always felt that the film started out great but then just seemed to fall apart completely in the second half. 13 minutes may not ultimately be enough to overcome the deficiencies, but it should ...

"Late Summer DVD Bash"

Slight goof in the review, Andy. "T.J. Hooker" was an ABC series, airing it's first full season right before "The Love Boat" and "Fantasy Island" (triple dose of Aaron Spelling!). I much preferred the arrangement of the theme music during these first two seasons. The th...

From a filmmaking standpoint, "Tora" is superior because it had the Japanese speak Japanese with subtitles and also had no dopey fictional subplots. "Midway" I think is undermined by the embarrassment of Paul Frees dubbing Toshiro Mifune, and also the whole annoying subplot regar...

I agree in general with the idea that it reflects lack of creativity and imagination that we're seeing too many remakes in this generation. And so often with less than stellar results. A Kong remake/reimagining in 76 was more understandable at the time given the difference in eras, and the fact that...

That will definitely be one worth getting! They've even restored the isolated score feature that was part of the CAV LD set but not the first DVD release. I now at last have a reason to dispose of that.

Leave it to Universal to be utter cheapskates when it comes to presenting what should have been the last word on this title (in the same way all their TV show releases of late have altered music). I don't even think I'm going to buy it now, even though I still can't watch the LD because I don't have...

Actually, I found the organization of the subjects in a chronological fashion without any intrusive narration to be quite effective. Kind of like having access to the raw materials of history at their best. And truth be told, I'd rather hear more from those who made the film then to hear some fan sa...

Sounds interesting, though I would never describe the full-length documentary from the LD as dry.

You'll enjoy these releases! Varan came out a week ago, but my efforts to find a store that has a copy have so far proved futile and I may have to make that a mail order. "Dagora" is slated for a July release. "Varan" has no English track, while "Dagora" will have the o...

Tokyo Shock Releases Classic Toho Sci-Fi

Fans of Toho kaiju and sci-fi movies have for the most part been frustrated by the inaccessibility of most of the catalog on good Region 1 DVD releases. In recent months, some of this has been rectified to a small degree with Sony releasing some of the lesser Godzilla films in beautiful transfers wi...

Why am I not surprised that Lucas is at it again with his umpteenth repackaging of the films on video, done in a way so that those who spent a lot the last time will feel they have no choice but to do it again. Until he puts the original cuts out on DVD though, he won't be getting any money from me....

Music replacement I've heard was a really big deal in Season 2 of Quantum Leap, with almost all of the period songs replaced. I won't buy any of them from now on. Knight Rider, Season 2, which I got yesterday, I'm told has a small disclaimer of "some music may be replaced" and the Hardy Bo...

Too Close For Comfort is a Rhino release (they have made amends and Season 2 will be uncut, but the cut Season 1 stuff remains), while Make Room For Daddy is done by Questar. Questar incidentally also does the Joey Bishop Show and while the episodes are complete you only get opening credits for when...

Flintstones, Season 3-Edited Episode

For those who pick up this set (where the birth of Pebbles reveals itself to be a true Jump The Shark moment) there is one episode that is a syndicated, cut version rather than the full-length broadcast original used for all other episodes, and that's on Disc 4 "The Big Move." Not only is ...

Full length documentary and original mix means I can watch this film again! It'll be nice to free up some storage space by selling off the LD Boxed set.
