With all this talk of encryption and paranoid attempts to control our viewing habits, HD-DVD and Blue Ray are sounding more and more like DIVX! (And we all saw where that format went.) Here is an interesting article at the site where I buy video tapes (actually its one installment of a series of art...

I keep on thinking about CD-i - remember them? Or 8mm video? Or the pre-laserdisc video discs. I remember those videodiscs. They were suspended in a plastic shell, and actually read by a stylus! That was almost as funny a format as the LP walkman. And I'm not even going to mention the B word... Wel...

Searching for Scorsese's Italian American on video
I have a good frind who grew-up in Little Italy in the 60s, who's birthday is coming-up, and I wanted to get him a copy of Martin Scorsese's documentary Italian American. However, searches for this title on DVD have come-up nill. Amazon has links to private sellers who are peddling the VHS...startin...

What about Revolution (arguably the most unfairly-knocked movie of all time...of which The Patriot was virtually a remake)? Of course I'd want a director and cinematographer commentary and an interview with John Corigliano in the special features. Not that it would happen, but it would be nice. Paul

Coppola the younger's Marie-Antoinette booed at Cannes...
I had no burning desire to see this film to begin with (a costume piece tracked with 80s tunes just doesn't grab me for some odd reason). But it looks as tho the film may well be even worse than the trailer suggests...

This is the same treatment previously given to other fringe formats such as D-VHS/D-Theater, DVD-A and SACD, all of which can only be described as mainstream failures (of these formats only SACD is barely holding onto a narrow segment of the audiophile niche, and even there its sales are dwarfed by...

Bugs in Blue-Ray format?
I read this interesting bit of news at totalmedia.com (where I buy most of my MiniDV tapes)... https://www.totalmedia.com/tips_31.asp Whole article is below... Blu-ray vs. HD DVD update. Sony lost the VCR battle in the 1970s when its highly regarded Betamax technology was trounced by VHS, a more wid...

...but now we get this . :( http://magazine.libero.it/cinema/foto/3751/connelly-dark-water-230.jpg Seriously, Jen...eat something and agree to star in a romantic comedy. I think she looks better in this picture. Give me a gal with no make-up in baggy hipster togs over a glitzy debutante any day! Paul

WARNING! WARNING! DANGER WILL ROBINSON! MY RESPONSE CONTAINS SPOILERS! DON'T READ IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE FILM... So, as far as I'm concerned, Magneto was the hero of the picture; now that Charles Xavier is, at least theoretically, out-of-the-picture, the X-Men should've installed Magneto as the ne...

JAY SHERMAN: It stinks! :( And Ottman's score to X2 was excellent. I don't know who Jay Sherman is, but I myself feel Ottman's score is the weakest of the three. The only really dynamic music in the film is when Nightcrawler attacks the president -- and that was Mozart's Requiem. I find Kamen's sco...

^^ For about the millionth time now...posts like these underscore why I haven't gone back to a theater in almost two years now. I can wait for three months and enjoy the movie on DVD in the comfort of my own home with zero hassles like these. I may just join you (in *practice* that is -- I don't me...
