Re: rate the last movie you saw
The Gauntlet (7.5/10) Not one of Clint Eastwood's best, but a solid thriller with some satisfying action. I was never a fan of Sandra Locke, but she was Eastwood's muse for a long time and you kind of have to take her along if you want to enjoy any of Clint's work from the mid 70 to the 80s. The pa...

I don't remember anything about the score. Was it really even worse than Where The River Runs Black?

Re: New Star Wars director
I wish you have the guts to admit your backlash is because of the gay characters. When you say "It's not the presence of gay characters that annoys people," it absolutely is. Basically you are saying, "I am ok with gay characters unless someone say something about them. Keep their im...

Re: Maestro -- Leonard Bernstein biopic
Is this going to get a Blu-ray release?
Or is Netflix going to prevent one so we have to pay $22 a month to watch it?

New Star Wars director
I am all for women directors (Sofia Coppola has done great work), I'm all for non-white directors (Antoine Fuqua is awesome), and in fact I consider Akira Kurosawa the greatest director of all time. But -- again -- this is Lucasfilm hiring a director with negligible experience in "high concept&...

Re: Changes to Amazon Prime Video (i.e. ads)
How about the option for turning off all end credits pop-ups shilling other stuff on Prime or that horrible "Next episode" thing for the extra surcharge? :? That would be nice too. I get so tired of being redirected to another movie (which is of no interest to me — and which amazon is cle...

Re: SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES and WATCHER IN THE WOODS Finally on Blu-Ray Via Disney Movie Club
The pacing needed more energy, it needed the narration and those shots of the fall and the Midwest landscape in Autumn, and to be honest, it needed Horner's score. According to Cinefantastique Magazine, Clayton and Bradbury were very unhappy about Disney's removal of the "house climbing" ...

Re: It's a Wonderful Life Rescored
Whenever a critic singles out a score like this today, I know it's gonna be one of the best of the year. It's just sad that the few genuinely "old-school" film scores being written these days always get slagged off like this by critics, even if it's written for a movie that looks li...

Re: It's a Wonderful Life Rescored
What's saddening is that a lot of people will watch this movie and not realize how much the new "score" compromises the film.
Sadder still, some people will say the new score is better than that "old fashioned music".

4/10
I lasted half an hour before turning it off. The same old cliched characters and formulaic CGI effects.

Re: rate the last movie you saw
Barbie (1/10) I had almost zero interest in this movie, but I decided to watch it, because I wanted to know what kind of film grosses $1.442 billion at the box office. Having sat through it (and resisted the urge to turn it off several times) I'm no closer to an answer. The subject is a children's ...

The Emerald Forest (8/10) This was a favorite of mine in my youth, and for the most part holds-up well today -- which is not to say it is perfect (either cinematically, or in its Blu-ray presentation -- more on that below). There are a number of stilted moments (particularly in its first 15-20 minu...

Good feature on Ridley Scott for CBS Sunday Morning... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0HUN32jwA8&t I don't know what this film is going to be like, but while I haven't enjoyed all of his films, Scott is still one of my favorites, and there always is something in a Ridley Scott movie that is vi...
