Re: rate the last movie you saw
The Beekeeper was fun...and more profitable on a cost-to-return ratio than anything released by Disney last year ($152 million worldwide on a $40 mil budget). This is the kind of unpretentious, realistically priced B-movie we need more of.

Pretty rich, coming from a guy who sold his upcoming "Origin story" for Pop-Tarts to a streamer.

Re: KINDERGARTEN COP - Kino Lorber 4K UHD Incoming
The art of cinematography is mostly dead and buried in the digital age. Everything mostly looks glossy and very much the same. It's why you go back to movies from decades ago and just the look of them is, as you said MJ, interesting and different. It just shows how the art of cinematography has dev...

Re: KINDERGARTEN COP - Kino Lorber 4K UHD Incoming
The movie also LOOKS like a million bucks, with the attractive Astoria, Oregon settings (also the setting for The Goonies ) crisply captured by cinematographer Michael Chapman, of all people. This silly, throwaway 1990 comedy looks far more "filmic" and cinematic than most $200 million Net...

Also one of the ankle-biters in Arnie's class is a young, pre- Cloverfield Odette Yustman! https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/MV5BNmVlNjMyZmQtNzgzYS00OWIzLWE3N2QtYjc1MGRjMGM3ODdmXkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyNjUzMjI3MTQ@._V1_.jpg https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/MV5BMjA1MmMyYWEtOTE2Yi00M2NiLWE4OTItZWViMDNkYWE...

Re: KINDERGARTEN COP - Kino Lorber 4K UHD Incoming
Watched this this morning...lovely new transfer, and the movie remains a breezy charmer (albeit too violent/scary for kids, some odd tonal shifts at times). Randy Edelman's score is indeed one of his best. And hey, Angela Bassett...! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dp043py-Rqs "Breakfas...

Re: Captain America? Phuck no!
Really it was when, say, they shifted from Kenneth Branagh doing THOR to "the guys who made the hit NBC comedy COMMUNITY" that it was apparent you needed no knowledge about directing movies to make a Marvel movie. The thing is, all of the "Phase One" MCU movies were done by Para...

Re: Captain America? Phuck no!
Is it any wonder why so many filmmakers have stepped away from Disney projects in the last several years? Who needs this level of micromanagement aggravation? It's also why their movies cost twice the original projected budgets, because they have to reshoot and tinker endlessly, because -- surprise!...

Young Woman & The Sea
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tNvrYzPUrk This has to be the first original, non-franchise live-action movie Disney's made since...what, Queen Of Katwe , way back in 2016? Anyways, nice it got rescued from the ignominy of a D+ debut. Hopefully enough people support it in theaters to remind...

Body Snatchers '56 on 4K, now with 1.85 aspect ratio!

Fascinating if true, that Kino managed to get the original 1.85:1 ratio that was artificially "stretched" to cash in on the 50s CinemaScope craze.

Re: KING KONG (1976) on 4K UHD
Disappointing they brought none of the Scream Factory extras over to the U.S. 4K release, but since I already own it, I can keep that for the extras, and this for the new transfer (which I intend to watch tomorrow).
