I can't say where I heard this...but I know for a fact Vangelis has composed several HOURS of NEW MUSIC for use in Scott's directors cut!:D Obviously not all of if will be used; I got the sense that rather than scoring to picture, Vangelis composed music of varying styles from which Scott can pick a...

As soon as one of these formats looks as good as the HD broadcasts I receive, I might then be pusuaded of their virtues. But in order to pursude me to BUY one, I want title selection which includes Lawrence of Arabia, Barry Lyndon, Ran, Blade Runner and Apocalypse Now. Y'know, the kinds of film whic...

Is there ANY good reason why they need to re-record the music? What does that have to do with CGI? According to Ford Thaxton anyway, they can't re-record the actual scores for use in the episodes, because the original seperate sound elements are no longer extant. So I think they are just re-recordi...

I saw a Blue-Ray demo the other day -- not impressed.

Has anyone taken a look at the Blue-Ray demo set-up in your neighborhood BestBuy? I saw one the other day. It was just a disc of movie trailers, but gosh...it was singularly unimpressive. One trailer did look very good -- sharper and with clearly higher resolution than the others, but the rest looke...

"Capricorn One" is a fun movie, but it is typical of its time. What makes it a bit more interesting to me is the intelligent use of score by Hyams and Jerry Goldsmith. Two sequences are designed to contrast loud scoring with silence by editing between strident conflict scenes and quiet, c...

So far only four episodes that I know of - The Five Doctors, The Ark in Space, Earthshock and Revelation of the Daleks . Shucks...none of my favorites. But I asume they are planning to do others? 'Cause The Time Monster is at the top of my list (somehow that stuntman in white tights and big bird wi...

90-second Planet of the Apes remake (sort of)...

I came across this in Youtube...

Does anyone else remember these commercials from the 70s?

The third commercial (starting at 1:20) is the best, and actually manages to compress Planet of the Apes' storyline into a minute and a half!

They've done something similar with some of the old Doctor Whos , but they've been for the DVD only and they've used extended branching so you have the option of the original fx or the new ones. Some of the new ones, though not exactly WETA quality, are fairly decent. Which ones have this? I only h...

I had read he rips-up the bibles in his own room, but I didn't know he did it in other peoples' as well!

Talk about insecure.

Sorry- that doesn't have much to do with film scores, but since Mr. Corigliano's name was mentioned, I couldn't pass up the chance... :) I highly reccomend these: Corigliano: Cretions and Other Works (Telarc CD-80421) I Fiamminghi conducted by Rudolf Werthen http://www.amazon.com/John-Corigliano-Cr...

The Dutch DVD is framed in 2.35 (I believe the movie was shot in Super 35) but the transfer is beyond terrible. A VHS to DVD rip would look better! Interesting, because Greystoke was apparently shot the same way. This was before they called it "Super 35"; John Alcott said it was called &q...

they were made from an over the top paranoia that Ronald Reagan was going to start World War III because of his tough posture against the Soviets, and so that's why we just happened to get film treatments like "2010", "War Games" and "The Day After" Augh...The Day Afte...

PR site for HD-DVD

I came across this today...

http://www.thelookandsoundofperfect.com/

The descriptions of the format sound impressive, tho the list of HD-DVD titles which are actually available seems rather paultry (though you CAN get Caddyshack and Firewall!).
