I just bought the (considerably more expensive) Region B blu-ray a couple of months ago.

Any word on whether this is the same transfer?

I preordered it so I'll check it out. It's unlikely to be a new transfer, but you never know.

Are there any extras on this release? I seem to remember there were extras on the DVD releases.

Yes and they ported over Laurent Bouzereau's DVD extras for the German Blu...Universal might (probably will) include them here but we'll have to see.
