Do you think this movie would be enhanced by HD? I have both the standard and Superbit DVDs of Heavy Metal and the print is so grainy I can't imagine it would look better on BD.

I would definitely think HD will help...if it's on film, it could be improved! I have yet to see any Blu-Ray that isn't better than DVD -- with the possible exception of maybe SPARTACUS and OUT OF AFRICA. Even the bad BD catalog transfers, you gain appreciably in detail over standard-def.

And I would definitely think it would best the Superbit DVD too :) Some of those Superbit transfers look pretty terrible upconverted.

My main concern is whether or not the extras will be on there...I'd be more worried about that than the transfer.

OK I forgot that one, lol! That one is one of the all-time botch jobs...though it's not any worse than DVD. Just not much better :(

All the extras are on there. And apparently it will be $14.99 this week in-store.

Just got my copy in and I'm impressed.

The transfer on HEAVY METAL is just superb. Far better than I thought it would be. Lots of detail added throughout, nice amount of film grain and very little processing. Sony always does a good job with their BD releases but the leap in detail even on a project like this that had SFX and different animation styles is impressive indeed. And the sound is sensational!

Note the commentary track during the movie itself has been dropped. They did include the rough cut (with commentary), the deleted scenes and the documentary, so most of the extras are there.

Well worth picking up for $15. I'd say you can throw your Superbit out Paul (unless it's worth something).
