This is NOT a good movie (I know -- I had to sit through it six or seven times).

Once again, WHY this and not Lawrence of Arabia or Ben-Hur?

:x

Unfortunately I had to watch and re-watch it, since I was writing the liner notes for the CD. A very fine score...but a little of that movie goes a long way!

Fortunately it at least had Françoise Hardy to look at...

Still no actual date on BEN-HUR though...and I'm guessing it might be Easter 2012 at this rate.

The value of "Grand Prix" as a movie is more the fact that it documents on film an era of Formula One racing from the mid-60s that is otherwise not well preserved visually (this being before the day of regular telecasts of auto races). It's plot is worthless, and Eva Marie Saint is absolutely embarrassing, but of all the racing movies of that era I find it more watchable than "Winning" (despite the fact that I love the Indy 500 more) or "Le Mans".

On a side note, I see LE MANS is coming out on Blu-Ray sometime in the next few months (it's on Amazon UK but with no date).

I'm not crazy about that film but the cinematography and Legrand's score are both solid.
