Weekend Box Office 12/15 - Hobbit Tops, But Declines

HOBBIT came out on top this weekend but is unsurprisingly down from its first installment. Think this will have a hard time getting much over $200-$225 mil domestic but obviously they make so much money internationally they'll be fine. There isn't the broader commercial appeal of the LOTR films there, however (and the first one bored me to tears),.

Interesting numbers in limited release. AMERICAN HUSTLE did spectacular on 4 screens, while Disney's SAVING MR BANKS fared moderately well (though how many people these days care about the making of MARY POPPINS?). INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS still doing well but now slowing down a bit -- it expands further in the next few weeks but may have hit the wall in terms of broad commercial appeal. Apparently depressing story may make this exclusively a film for Coen devotees.
