Another reissue of Mysterious Island means that I can perhaps be more discriminating about any title they put out in the future. Nothing of interest for me in that batch.

Will 1984 be the more recent director's cut with the original music score (which was replaced by The Eurythmics at the time of the theatrical release?).

I would imagine it would be because MGMs master I've seen has that score in it.

So apparently the 1984 Blu Rays that have surfaced in Europe have the Eurythmics soundtrack on the English language tracks after all. Other languages retain the orchestral only score. It will be interesting to see what TT has access to and releases.

I hope they're able to release the directors cut in English. Apparently the MGM DVD release of the film contained the original Dominic Muldowney score (as well as removing Roger Deakins' desaturated "bleach bypass" processing unfortunately), but was removed from circulation soon after its release.

Was this a LAST OF THE MOHICANS type of situation? Looks like Lennox and Stewart blamed the director and producer for lying to them about the other score. lol
I found this Chicago Tribute article from January 1985:
:Eurythmics Hopping Mad Over `1984` Film Flap: `it`s A Farce`
HTF has the list of titles for January/February up. All of them of interest to a lot of people but none for me in that lot.
THE LAST DETAIL (1973) BLU-RAY - January 19th
BOUND FOR GLORY (1976) BLU-RAY - January 19th
HAWAII (1966) BLU-RAY - January 19th
FROM THE TERRACE (1960) BLU-RAY - January 19th
THE HAPPY ENDING (1969) BLU-RAY - January 19th
THE HAWAIIANS (1970) BLU-RAY - February 9th
SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SHERIFF (1969) / SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL GUNFIGHTER (1971)
BLU-RAY - February 9th
COWBOY (1958) BLU-RAY - February 9th
THE BIG HEAT (1953) BLU-RAY - February 9th

If the Garner SUPPORT double-feature is their normal price, that is one I will pre-order, and to have Elmer Bernstein's score for HAWAII as an isolated track would make that a worthwhile purchase (even if Max von Sydow's character is one of the more despicable ones in 60's cinema).

The "Hawaii" score already being out on CD for me would mean I wouldn't need it for a score rip. I sat through the film twice, and the second time only to see the longer cut (I would presume they're going to present that on Blu-Ray) and see if it made me less offended than I was the first time. I wasn't, and that marked the last time I would ever subject myself to the film.
I do have to admit, that having obtained Twilight's "The Bounty" last week I found myself trying to envision Bernstein's score for the moment when the Bounty arrives in Tahiti. They did a good job on that one with the historical commentary.

Looking forward to HAWAII and THE HAWAIIANS plus the Garner titles.
That announcement BTW is a "Home Theater Forum" exclusive for something like 12-24 hours. It's now official so I don't have to credit them

Speaking of Hawaii, here's a neat clip I found on Youtube, featuring Elmer Bernstein recording the score for the film...
