Ready Player One was about what I expected. Having not ready the book, I certainly didn’t expect a dark tone, and frankly the nature of the screen story benefited from a lighter touch in my opinion. There is a sequence which I will not spoil, that was worth my time and trouble all by itself.

Also, did anyone feel Ben Mendelssohn was slyly channeling Harrison Ford in certain scenes? My wife and daughter didn’t catch it, but I thought it was pretty funny.

I think 2 1/2 (out of 4) is fair. You might adjust it up a notch if you are a child of the 80’s or a gamer.

I saw it today and enjoyed it well enough as a popcorn flick. I didn't really have any expectations. Never read the book. Loved the Silvestri score.
