The movie will most likely suck even if they rework the ending so that Indy is no longer scrubbed from history, but at least the character will be saved that final indignity.

And, like Doomcock says, it's an encouraging sign moving forward that Darth Kennedy's tenure wrecking one nostalgic franchise after another is rapidly coming to an end, :)

Mangold sounds like a dope. After trashing Williams (even half-jokingly I'd assume) he calls him a "lovely man". lol. Like Williams probably listened to a thing this guy had to say.

Cautiously optimistic news. It still may well suck but hopefully we won't want to toss things at the screen during it. And just wait, Mangold will tell us they never made the changes and the movie was always meant to end up that way

It's the classic approach to badly misconceived movies...just cut the product to the bone attempting to excise the most contentious elements. The resulting movie will still probably suck, but at least we'll likely be spared the ultimate indignity of attending the latest cinematic funeral of a straight, white male protagonist. :)

Yeah. I'm not expecting an 87-minute SUPERMAN IV, but from what he's said, the movie is such a mess, it's been cut and recut already a bunch of times, it's probably not going to matter in terms of actual quality. Just fiddling around to maximize profits and NOT irritate the very people who will show up to support it.

I have no doubt the film won't actually be "good", because the only way it would be is if they started over with an idea that worked. Time travel and a de-aged Indiana Jones running around with an elderly Indiana Jones -- that just isn't it. To say nothing of his modern feminist, quip-making sidekick (which let's hope his reports are true and she's been reduced drastically from the film).

If you like RAIDERS and didn't like the move to "digital" with CRYSTAL SKULL and its look/storyline/lack of real location work, this is much more of the same, even more in that direction. It's at odds with what RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK was, which was real stunt work and a move to practical, 1930s styled stunts and action (that only moved into heavy FX at the very end).

My hope for fans is that Disney will do the right things - sounds like they are doing just that but I guess the proof will be in the final product. I am still going to skip it though - just cannot drum up enough interest internally to want to see the movie.

It's likely only the fact that Disney is already $300+ million in the hole that has kept them from junking the entire project, a la WB's Batgirl (which cost "only" $90 million). They're just throwing good money after bad trying to "fix" something that's gonna end up sucking and pissing off the fanbase.

It's all about the investment. Remember they paid BILLIONS for Lucasfilm, Star Wars and Indiana Jones. There's a big difference there in terms of the IP and what the ceiling is from, say, BATGIRL. Even a mediocre Indy movie has the potential to at least do "okay" and keep the franchise alive, enough to do their Disney+ series and however else they want to exploit the IP's value. Disney didn't buy all this stuff not to remake and regurgitate it over and over again -- as well they've already shown us. :?

Doomcock says the movie ISN'T going to be saved -- it's too late for that -- it's just minimizing the damage, shuffling around scenes it sounds like to remove Waller-Bridge from large sections of the movie. He also says her delivery of lines was a problem -- what was "meant to be like Princess Leia" sarcasm instead became leering, unappealing snarkiness. The audience HATED it, just like how they were going to end the film. (Of course we should argue WHY she was ever cast to begin with -- another Kathleen Kennedy special!).

One thing's for sure -- Williams' score is almost certain to be a mess. Even rescoring the ending won't help the rest of it, which undoubtedly has been re-edited and re-shot so many times from when he initially scored it that it'll be a patchwork at best.
