Good opening for RATATOUILLE (not a Pixar/Disney record though) but an excellent performance by DIE HARD in the #2 slot, which opened with a nice bump on Saturday as well. I'll post numbers later once they come out.
Also, nice job by PIRATES which has performed better overseas than it did here. Bottom line - $900 million worldwide gross, making it the 9th film of all-time to reach that plateau. It'll end up being the highest grossing film worldwide of the year, beating SPIDEY by a few dollars.
I guess, although the film was a disappointment, we can anticipate another one...and let's hope it's a better one!

will be interesting to see how DH holds up, I know many who were not interested in it, but now with great word of mouth that seems to change... so maybe that hangs up there a little longer, otherwise it does fine, but not enough to greenlit another one...
well, I guess transformers kicks them all out, but maybe everybody remember THE ISLAND and stays away...

Two thoughts Roman:
1. DIE HARD is tracking better than pretty much any summer movie, and you can already see word of mouth kicking in. $110 mil budget is also kind of low for that kind of movie, if it does $100 million domestic I think they'll do another one since these tend to perform well internationally. Bottom line: I think it will be a hit.
2. TRANSFORMERS is going to be huge. I am not sure how gigantic a smash it will be, but I think it will open really, really, really well in this country. It could even conceivably double the entire domestic gross of THE ISLAND over the 5 day frame in the U.S. this week.

i dont think TRANSFORMERS will be as big internationally as in the US. Here I hardly know anybody who doesnt say anything stupid about it. I guess they know it will be a bit harder here, that's why they moved the release to August, so they dont compete with DIE HARD and Harry Potter here...
I guess I will see it with a cheap ticket (4 dollars), although I promised myself never to watch a Bay movie, but the robots look nice (except there faces...) and be it just for sound and effects, but I expect nothing but garbage.
Could fail here like SUPERMAN RETURNS... and I hope it does.
