I saw THE PATRIOT- nothing else he's been in. I guess I'm just out of it- there is not much that gets released nowadays that I get enthused about seeing. This winter is an exception- I've seen POTTER, NARNIA, GEISHA, KONG, and on Monday plan on seeing MUNICH. That's the most I've gone to the theaters in a month in a long, long time. I wait for DVD releases and rent since I don't feel like paying that much money to see what's available to see in the theaters.

Ok- Brokeback Mountain won Best Director and Best Film....I can't say that I'm shocked, although I have no idea what kind of business it's doing. Is it in large-scale release??? If not, what a great "seller"- realease it in limited distribution, gain momentum by winning a bunch of "insider" awards, and then release it worldwide to reap the financial reward. Have you seen the trailer that makes use of Thomas Newman's SHAWSHANK score (wrongly in my opinion)? I still have no desire to see it- maybe even less now.

Is anyone else kind of tired of these awards shows and how they glorify themselves? I really have lost all interest in watching them (and it's not becuase of anything that is nominated or wins)-

I didn't even turn it on. I was writing up a few reviews for next week and clicked on the "Winners" update on IMDB, spared me the sermonizing.

I'm only going to write this once or twice -- regardless of whether these movies are deservedly honored, you'll have a gay cowboy movie as Best Picture and a possible Best Actress winner being honored for playing a transsexual. I don't see any statement there about rubbing the face of "Middle America" in their politics, do you?

I may bypass this year's Oscar ceremony altogether. Jon Stewart -- he ought to be hilarious, I'm sure. :? And they thought their ratings were declining recently as well...wait till this rolls out into the national media.

Hopefully John Williams will cop original score. That's about the extent of my interest in the award ceremony.

I have a friend who saw Brokeback Mountain and said it was okay. She preferred both Munich and Memoirs of a Geisha over Brokeback Mountain. I'll take her word for it.

Jon Stewart- hmmm...I wonder what he's going to joke about- "illegal" wire tapping? Anything about Bush? Anything about Alito and Republicans in general? These awards shows are just hyped too much- what with Joan and Melissa on the Red Carpet, the pre-show interviews, the post-show interviews.....honestly, do people really care about these things? I'm repeating myself- time to move on.

It would be nice to see Williams get another award, no matter what it means. And on a bright ending note, X3 comes out this summer as does SUPERMAN (I admit I'm getting excited about it), LADY IN THE WATER, and 007? Or is he in 2007? Anyway, "the sun'll come out....tomorrow...." 8)

I'm trying to remain upbeat about SUPES, but two things remain obstacles from getting overly excited: a) John Ottman, and b) the cinematography from the trailer, which looks like every "Dreary Dark Superhero movie Ever made" from the look of it.

On the other hand, I thought the LADY IN THE WATER trailer was beautifully done and actually has me looking forward to the movie :)
