The sequel/reboot/rermake prediction thread

Inspired by the announcement of a live-action version of the animated “classic” Fern Gully, I thought I’d start a thread where we all come up with our own predictions for what movie Hollywood will remake next, no matter how outrageous or unwanted. I have come up with several categories. Each member of the board can pick one title for each category. If you want, you can have the same title fit into multiple categories. Your choices can be as cynical and unrealistic as you want. Alternatively, you can pick something that might be an improvement. Whoever’s choice gets announced first, wins! What do you win? I don’t know, bragging rights? The admiration of your fellow board members? Have fun!

Here are the categories with my picks.

The Maverick: A long after the fact sequel. Can be a new installment in a series. Must be a direct continuation of the prior movie with at least one member of the original cast. The prior movie must be at least 25 years old.

The Princess Bride: direct sequel with all surviving cast members

“That one doesn’t count!” A new entry in an existing franchise that ignores one or more prior entries in the series.

Star Wars: Episode 7 - AI generated original cast members

Franchise fatigue: new entry in a franchise that already has inspired multiple reboots/remakes/sequels.

The Pink Panther

But it’s now a show: A remake that turns an existing movie into a streaming series. Apple TV has done a lot of these lately like Fatal Attraction, Presumed Innocent and Cape Fear. Does not have to be based on a book.

Oh, no they didn’t! A remake guaranteed to infuriate people.

But now it’s live-action. Remake of an animated movie. Doesn’t have to be Disney.

The one that could really use a remake is Lord of the Rings -- as Peter Jackson's films swapped-out the story's introspection and substance in favor of a lot of flashy, CGI gimmickry and horror movie shock effects.

Unfortunately, Jackson's interpretation seems Inextricably fused with Tolkien's work in the public's mindset.

Speaking of Jackson, I doubt the remake of The Dam Busters will be forthcoming anytime soon, which I think is a good thing.

Oh well.

As far other remakes, I could honestly see someone remaking The Wicker Man, with Cynthia Erivo as a cop investigating an island run by white male Christian fundamentalists.
