There do not seem to be any new supplements and the 16:9 formatted films will be available separately.
Since the chances of Fox sending anyone a review copy are slim to none, I'll be sitting this one out. Too bad Fox didn't release the Alien-head packaging from the overseas deluxe edition here - THAT one I might have considered!
Is there any news about the cartoon being offered separately? I have everything else (scores and all), so it would be kind of impractical for me to purchase this for the cartoon.....that would so suck if they're gouging us by not allowing the cartoon to be released separately-
Rumor has it that Fox will release the cartoon separately. And that's all I'm interested in since I've got the last boxed set, and the TV show, and the redone version of the first movie, and the old Image released DVD bonus with the extras (the unedited Roddy McDowall interview) that wasn't in the revised first movie DVD supplements.
I'll tell you sometimes it's great not having a widescreen TV because then I don't have to worry about whether the film had an anamorphic release or not (it only makes a marginal difference on my computer screen sometime).
How MANY times have these movies been put out on DVD by now?!
This is some of the worst "multi-dipping" from the studios that we've seen yet!
And just imagine: They get a whole new chance to start this cycle ALL over again with the whole HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray thing.

A minor inconvenience. You don't know what you're missing out on, believe me.
Yes but then just think, it's a 2oth Century Fox release, so it's bound to have a re-issue after re-issue.
How many times has the Die Hard/Alien/Star Wars series been reissued, with added this, but missing that. I also take into account video tape & laser discs, I know on Star Wars alone I had 3 vhs, 2 laser discs, fortunatley only 1 dvd!
I have come to a point where Fox & the major labels as a whole are concerned to not bother to buy their releases for a year or so, unless they are in the $6 or $9 bracket as they are always putting a 'new edition out'.
In fact I have to say, if it's a new release, I don't bother buying anything unless it's $6.99 or $9.99 previously viewed from Blockbusters or Rogers Video. As I get a little tired of 'buying' the same titles a year down the line with extra or director cut or some such other way to rip the buyers off.
My biggets disapointment being Muppest Christmas Carol with the extended version being full screen. Just wait give it a year or so & Disney will be putiing it out as a 'first time ever, extended version in widescreen'. Or 'lets con the buyers again' release.
maybe I am just a little tired of the same stuff over & over again or maybe tired of being conned.
When it comes to Fox reissuing a movie on DVD, I'd rather see "One Million Years BC" given a new release, seeing how Fox was too stupid to do the extended Laser Disc cut last time.
With some kind of HD DVD format on the horizon, whether it turns out to be Blu Ray or HD DVD, I'm beyond the point of "upgrading" simply if they rehash a transfer for 16:9. There are no new supplements in this set of any kind, and I'd be more interested in "upgrading" once they ask us all to do this again...and then again...in whatever format is next.
Well, I'M happy to see this release, but then again, the only APES DVD I currently have is the 2-Disc set of the Burton remake (and I could live without that, let alone another!). I'd been intentionally holding out for the 16x9 transfers.
It's funny, but when I bought the remake disc, I hadn't seen the movie. I justified the purchase by assuming that the extras would at least be worth the cost. But once I watched the movie, I had no further interest in pursuing the behind-the-scenes material!
I don't think I'll be rushing to replace all of my DVDs when the HD formats arrive. HD will look great, of course, but DVDs will still look pretty good. I don't think it will be as dramatic a difference as VHS vs. DVD.

Yeah. I'm certainly not planning on being an early adopter for either one of those (past piggybacking BR on my PS3 or whatever), but you're right: It makes very little sense, even now, to keep rebuying the same standard DVD's of the same movies repeatedly.
I notice my DVD buying habits have already scaled back considerably in the past few months, in light of the growing HD-DVD and BR news.
Still waiting to see if they've included any new supplements on the sequels or if this is just a rehash of the previous DVDs -- just with 16:9 transfers on the follow-ups.
