Weekend Box-Office 7/13 - Up and Away for SUPERMAN

#1 Post by AndyDursin »

Just checking in at the midpoint of summer mark.

That's a good opening for SUPERMAN but adjusted for inflation was not any higher (it's actually lower) than MAN OF STEEL. Will see how it holds, but in terms of relaunching the DC characters, it's mission accomplished as it lays the ground for upcoming features.

Good hold for JURASSIC WORLD also, under 60%.
1.) Superman (WB) 4,135 theaters, Fri $56.5M, $37M 3-day $123M/Wk 1

2.) Jurassic World Rebirth (Uni) 4,324 (+16) theaters, Fri $11.5M Sat $16M Sun $12.3M 3-day $40M (-57%), Total $232.1M/Wk 2

3.) F1 (WB) 3,412 (-320) theaters, Fri $3.7M (-47%) 3-day $12.8M (-50%), Total $136M/Wk 3

4.) How to Train Your Dragon (Uni) 3,285 (-429) theaters, Fri $2.34M Sat $3M Sun $2.38M 3-day $7.8M (-31%), Total $239.8M/Wk 5

5.) Elio (Dis) 2,730 (-505) theaters, Fri $1.2M (-20%) Sat $1.6M Sun $1.1M 3-day $3.9M (-32%), Total $63.6M/Wk 4

6.) 28 Years Later (Sony) 2,208 (-709) theaters, Fri $815K (-26%) Sat $1.1M Sun $800K 3-day $2.72M (-40%), Total $65.7M/Wk 4

Also impressive hold for F1, proving that star-driven summertime dramas for adults aren't completely down for the count. :)

Also, how deeply embarrassing that Megan 2.0 will not even make as much in total as the original did in its opening weekend.

F1 is doing fine but it's the only game in town. You have to give adults something...I'd probably counter that by saying 1 "adult" movie over a span of, what, 6 weeks isn't enough though. :(

As for MEGAN, that's like the ultimate case of a "one and done" viewing phenomenon where nobody wanted to see a sequel. Like, even the people who liked the first one, basically were like "yeah, I've seen it, that was enough."

Probably should have done better testing to see if audiences were going to respond to a Part 2. It's done SO badly that it wouldn't have mattered when they released it, people simply were bottom-line disinterested in its mere existence.

SNAKES ON A PLANE 2 would've fared the same way had they made it
